Food Delivery Project Wraps Up

On behalf of the Newsome-Bailey Project and Serve the City Peninsula we want to thank those of you who joined with us during the COVID-19 crisis to help feed at-risk families and individuals in the Southeast Community of Newport News. Your food donations and hours of volunteer support (well over 50 different people, many new to Serve the City) resulted in the delivery of approximately 8,000 pounds of food over the last three months. This food was delivered to 16 large families enrolled in the Newsome-Bailey Project and to 50 seniors at Spratley House on 25th Street where we normally host BINGO each month.

Now that the Governor has implemented Phase 2 guidelines to re-open Virginia, it was decided that the June 5th food delivery would be our the final delivery. But this by no means ends our commitment to this community.  Struggles for people in the Southeast Community occurred long before the pandemic and will continue long after. This specific outreach met an immediate nutritional crises, but the greatest need is to continue humbly demonstrating our commitment to neighborhood transformation by walking alongside them.
